Bad good guys

Image It is no secret that many graphic novels do an excellent job with the educational function: they teach young readers that you need to be kind and courageous, respect the elders and always protect the weak. Unfortunately, on-screen versions of famous superheroes often serve as bad examples for viewers. This is the conclusion reached by scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, who conducted an interesting study of modern film comics.

American scientists have carefully analyzed ten hits of the film distribution and came to the conclusion that superheroes do more bad deeds than antagonists. If the villains had only 18 violent actions per hour of screen time, then the good guys use weapons, fight or destroy buildings 23 times an hour. Moreover, 93 people died at the hands of bad guys in the films of the sample, while the protagonists sent 168 people to the next world.

Heroes have surpassed villains in other categories as well. They are more likely to get into fights, use weapons more often, destroy public property more often and resort to threats and torture more often.

The full report by the Penn State University staff was posted on the American Pediatric Association website. Its compilers aptly noticed that children often imitate their favorite movie characters. In this regard, American pediatricians strongly recommend that parents closely monitor what their children are watching and, if necessary, explain why this or that superhero is not a very good role model.
