Domestic filmmakers hurried to take advantage of this news, who realized that they would not have to pay for the rights to film adaptation of books and share income with the author's heirs. At the end of 2016, director Sarik Andreasyan announced his desire to create a whole cinematic universe based on Belyaev's bestsellers, but in the end, this project seems to have successfully played into the box. Now Fyodor Bondarchuk is ready to take on the work of the famous writer.Bondarchuk's production company decided to give an answer to the upcoming Hollywood film comics "Aquaman" and shoot its own underwater adventure action. According to the TASS news agency, the Art Pictures studio is starting work on the film adaptation of the novel Amphibian Man. As is often the case in the domestic film industry, the scriptwriter of the film, it seems, did not even try to familiarize himself with the text of the original source. The action of the picture will unfold at the beginning of the 20th century in St. Petersburg. The protagonist of the story will be the inventor Maxim Naydenov, who decided to engage in an unequal battle with the terrible Sea Devil, who attacks ships in the Gulf of Finland every night. The scientist hopes that a mysterious amphibian girl named Gala will be the key to defeating the sinister enemy ...  The preliminary synopsis of the film has nothing to do with Belyaev's story, but even now the desire of film producers to make money on the loud title of a book about the adventures of Ichthyander is clearly visible. It is expected that Fyodor Bondarchuk will personally direct the film. Filming for the free interpretation of "Amphibian Man" will begin next fall, and it will be released in 2020.
