Colin Farrell to play psychopath on the BBC
The actor has been cast in the lead role in a new miniseries based on Ian McGuire's novel The North Water. The BBC project will be written and directed by Andrew Hay (Trust in Pete) and produced by See-Saw Films, behind Top of the Lake.The original novel is set in the 1850s. In the series, Colin Farrell will play Henry Drax, a brutal killer and whaler whose moral values have been shaped to fit the harsh realities. In the company of the disgraced military surgeon Patrick Sumner, he is hired on a whaling ship and sent to the Arctic. Sumner expects to escape from the horrors of his past, and at the same time finds himself on the edge of the Earth alone with a crazy psychopath. It is reported that the role of the doctor is also looking for an A-class star. Filming will start in the fall. Colin Farrell will be featured in Tim Burton's game remake of Dumbo this spring, along with Guy Ritchie's crime drama Toff Guys and Tommy Wircola's action thriller War Pigs.
