Boyle is ready to trade Bond for a comedy

Image A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Danny Boyle is the main contender for the director's chair for the new James Bond film and has already begun writing it with John Hodge. Apparently, 007 will still have to wait: Boyle is preparing an unnamed comedy for Universal Studios. The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The details of the tape are still kept secret. It is known that the picture will be musical, and its action will unfold in the 60s or 70s. Boyle co-writes the project with Richard Curtis, director and screenwriter for Love Real. Universal's management wants to start filming the film as soon as possible, and if everything is ready in a short time, including the selection of the cast, then Boyle will be on the other side of the camera this summer.

In this regard, a natural question arises: what will happen to James Bond? The source writes that Boyle's negotiations with EON Productions have reached an impasse so far, and the Universal comedy is a top priority project for the director. If the company's bosses really want to lure the Oscar winner into 007's network, they may have to postpone the blockbuster release from November 8, 2019 to a later date.

Danny Boyle is not the first time interested in the music genre: a couple of years ago he was going to adapt the musical "Miss Saigon" for the big screens, but there was no other news about the project. Boyle's latest work to date is The Trust, which will be out on FX later this month.
