Happy Bloody Valentine!

Image Filmula Entertainment will talk about the confrontation between the Irish and Italian mafia in Chicago in the 20s of the last century. According to Deadline, the Californian studio has acquired the rights to film the novel Lion In Winter by American historian James L. Swanson.

The work of the laureate of the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Literary Prize will only go on sale in 2020, and therefore the details of its plot are still kept secret. According to preliminary information, one of the most famous crimes in American history, the so-called Valentine's Day Massacre, will play a key role in the narrative.

In 1929, the famous gangster Al Capone decided to eliminate his main competitors in the bootlegging business. On February 14, his accomplices were supposed to lure the leaders of the North Side Irish gang to one of the Chicago warehouses, where a deal was supposed to take place to sell smuggled Canadian whiskey.

When the Irish arrived at the designated place, the police suddenly raided the warehouse. The servants of the law ordered the criminals to lay down their arms and line up along the wall. The members of the North Side gang did not even suspect that the officers were actually Capone's people. Soon, several more Italian mafiosi arrived at the warehouse, who shot the unarmed Irishmen with Thompson machine guns. Six people died on the spot, and another died three hours after the arrival of the real police.

Fortunately for the Irish mafia, the leader of the North Side gang, George "Bugs" Moran, was not among the dead. The offender was supposed to be present at the meeting, but was delayed on the way and noticed that a police car was parked next to the warehouse. Seeing the result of the massacre of his people, Moran violated the unspoken gangster code and accused the Italians of killing them. Capone was summoned for interrogations a couple of times, but he took care of an alibi in advance and successfully avoided charges of complicity in the crime.

The adaptation of the book for the big screen will be done by Chuck Hogan, writer of the action movie 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and creator of the popular TV horror film The Strain.
