Jack Ryan has a competitor

Image The name of Tom Clancy in the world of cinema is more often associated with films about Jack Ryan, but since the latter has recently moved to small screens, another hero from the writer's novels is ready to receive his share of fame. Variety reports that Michael B. Jordan will play John Clarke, one of the characters in Clancy's spy novels, in Paramount's new action franchise.

According to the source, the series will include at least two films: the first will be an adaptation of No Mercy, followed by a sequel - the long-awaited adaptation of Rainbow Six.

Clark, aka John Terrence Kelly, is a former Navy SEAL who joined the ranks of CIA agents. He appears in 17 Tom Clancy novels, but more often as a supporting character assisting Jack Ryan during his missions. The work "No Mercy" tells how exactly Clark got into the CIA, and already in "Rainbow Six" he heads the international unit for the fight against terrorism, which neutralizes dangerous criminals who threaten world security. Michael B. Jordan will be the third actor to bring Clark to the big screen. Before him, Willem Dafoe and Liv Schreiber were honored with this honor.

Once Sean Ryan was going to shoot the film "No Mercy", and after him Christopher McQuarrie became interested in the project. Around the same time, Tom Hardy was wooed to play John Clark. In 2012, Kevin Costner signed up for the action film Jack Ryan: Chaos Theory on the condition that he return to his role in the film about Clark. However, Chaos Theory did not succeed, and the attempt to launch a new media franchise failed. While the name of Costner has not been mentioned in connection with the new project, it is known that Akiva Goldsman (Transformers) is developing the film. A year ago there was talk of the producer returning Rainbow Six from oblivion, and he wanted to invite Ryan Reynolds to play John Clark.

Apparently, Reynolds was not interested in the offer, but Michael B. Jordan agreed to become the face of the new action franchise. However, journalists suspect that the Paramount bosses were able to lure the star of "Creed" with a promise to shoot an entire film series. Whether the plans of the major will change if the first film fails, one can only guess.
