The young prince Dastan of ignoble blood during the assault on the sacred city of Alamut (suspected of trading in weapons) receives a dagger with magical properties. You can use it to `` unwind '' time back a minute and change the course of events - and only the owner of the dagger will know what happened. Many rulers seek to take possession of the dagger, not knowing that it is the key to the real `` Pandora's box '' that can destroy the world. In a large-scale action adventure based on the cult computer game - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - time puts everything in its place.

They have been preparing for the adaptation of the world famous game for a long time - the first poster of "Prince of Persia" appeared on the screens back in the frame of the comedy `` Shopaholic '', to which the `` golden producer '' also had a hand Jerry Bruckheimer. The credits list is impressive - in the making of Prince of Persia the author of the computer game of the same name, Jordan Mechner, and the creator of parkour, David Belle, took part; Mike Newell (who directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) was in the director's chair, and the music was written by the virtuoso Harry Gregson-Williams.

The output is a bright entertaining fairy tale with oriental flavor, adventures and spectacular acrobatics, which can be remembered for curious games with time.

The best in the movie is the scenery and stunts: Prince Dastan shows real class throughout the movie, tumbling, jumping on rooftops and running along walls like no other hero has ever done before ... Watching his acrobatics is as exciting as playing Prince of Persia himself - it seems that this is exactly what the directors wanted. In addition, the setting in the movie is created with love and care - the viewer is presented with majestic eastern cities, bustling markets and neighborhoods and a regal desert. Against this background, the events of the movie seem like an untold story from the fairy tales of the Thousand and One Nights.

The humor also did not disappoint: Sheikh Amar performed by the sparkling Alfred Molina in all scenes where he is present, shoots a lot of jokes - and where he is not, Prince Dastan adds funny situations. By the way, the scene with the ostrich kiss is purely Molina's improvisation: “I thought I’d either get a beak in my eye, or we’ll shoot a funny episode.” - the actor laughs.

"Prince of Persia" clearly marks the position of the Big Adventure Franchise - a path paved by & "Pirates of the Caribbean". But up to the level of the Pirates the movie, unfortunately, does not hold out - the heroes are not the same.

Prince Dastan is charming and dexterous - but all his charisma cannot fill the scenario void of this hero, which has imperceptibly migrated from the computer game. In the game, this void is filled by the player when he takes control of the Prince of Persia - and in the movie it is intended to replace the character of the character, which Dastan forgot to register.

Jake Gyllenhaal, who excels in the most diverse roles, squeezed out of the two-dimensional Dastan what he could - but on the screen the prince still looks not fabulous, but a computer hero. Princess Tamina, who accompanies Dastan for most of the screen time, in some places merges with the magnificent scenery. Gemma Arterton in Prince of Persia - a doll, and makes it regret that Eva Green was not in her place in the movie (remember Princess Sibylla from Kingdom of Heaven).

To match the oriental flavor of the fairy tale, the moviemakers wanted to invite not Western, but Eastern artists to key roles. However, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan refused to play Dastan, and Iranian movie star Golshift Farahani was arrested at the border while she was on her way to star in the role of Princess Tamina. - for participation in the movie by Ridley Scott `` The Body of Lies '' she was forbidden to leave the country. Therefore, in `` Prince of Persia '' all major and minor persons in the Persian kingdom are not oriental, but defiantly European, which is a little embarrassing at first, and then you get used to it: a fairy tale.

But most of all is "Prince of Persia" surprises not with actors, sets and stunts - but with the fact that Mike Newell unexpectedly shot a free remake of Timur Bekmambetov's impressive domestic blockbuster. The plot of the Prince of Persia so strikingly similar to the main line in Day Watch, which makes the writers of Prince of Persia suspect that they drew inspiration from the experience of USA blockbuster production.

Timur Bekmambetov with his eastern focus looks, of course, deeper than flatish Hollywood - but also `` Prince of Persia '' interestingly fits the " eternal " questions about fate and choice.

They say experience is the mind of fools: and looking at the plot twists and turns of `` Prince of Persia '', you clearly understand that people are not smart - one or two lives are not enough to live theirs in such a way that `` it would not be excruciatingly painful. '' As in a computer game - it is best to pass the level not from the first, but from two or three attempts. `` We create our own destiny '' Dastan says to Princess Tamina, and she smiles back: “You still think narrowly.” And if you take a broader look, the princess is right: it is, of course, not the number of attempts and actions in building destinies that matters, but what will turn out in the end.

Adventures and trials gave Prince Dastan the experience he needed to look at time and life from a different angle, to step over the edge a little. And looking he took the best measure he could take: not against opponents and obstacles, armies and other people's intrigues - against time.
