George Lucas will direct Obi-Wan's solo album?

Image In February of this year, a sensational rumor circulated around the world that the Disney studio had involved the legendary George Lucas in the making of the film about the adventures of the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Belfast Telegraph claimed that the Star Wars creator visited the capital of Northern Ireland last winter and carefully examined several of the scenic locations and pavilions of the Paint Hall film studio. Then many fans of the space saga had a suspicion that George would return to work on the franchise as the producer of the tape about Obi-Wan's wanderings on the planet Tatooine. It seems that these rumors are at risk of being true. What's more, Lucas could direct the new spin-off of the main series.

Information about George Lucas's involvement in the project came from an unexpected source. These days, Belfast is hosting a convention of the Democratic Unionist Party, which is closely followed by The Spectator weekly. One of the points of the event was dedicated to the development of British cinema. Former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson took the stage with a speech. “What was the highest-grossing film last year?, the politician asked the audience. -Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Where does George Lucas suggest filming the Obi-Wan spin-off? In Northern Ireland".

Johnson's words, of course, should be taken with a fair amount of skepticism. Keep in mind, however, that he may well have useful connections in the UK film industry. Perhaps Boris has some inside information about a deal between local studios and Disney Corporation, which has not yet become public knowledge.

At the same time, it cannot be ruled out that Johnson just heard the February rumors about Lucas's participation in the project and rushed to wishful thinking. Some of the politician's ill-wishers even wrote on social networks that he did not know anything about the transfer of Lucasfilm under the wing of the Walt Disney empire and still considers George the rightful owner of the franchise.

However, as you know, there is no smoke without fire. The eighth episode of the main series sparked an outcry among fans, many of whom staged a boycott of the Han Solo spin-off. As a result, the film about the adventures of a charming smuggler was a crushing failure at the box office. Disney executives had to urgently review plans for the development of the franchise. Over the past couple of months, the studio has launched The Mandalorian TV series and an unnamed show about Cassian Andor from Rogue One. At the same time, the further fate of Star Wars on the big screen is shrouded in darkness: Disney has not yet announced which film will be released after the ninth episode of the main film series.

On the Disney side, it would be wise to give the green light to the film about the adventures of a character who enjoys the special love of the audience. To finally appease the fans, the studio will only need to officially confirm Lucas's participation in the work on Obi-Wan's solo album. In the meantime, fans of George's work can only hope that information about his long-awaited return to a distant, distant galaxy will be confirmed in the very near future.
