The wonderful Wheeler family. Two children, charming April, caring Frank. They live in a small house on Revolutionary road. However, the revolution is brewing not on the street of the same name, but in the house, boldly perched on a hill. A painful and hysterical story turns out to be a wonderful drama about a big world in which two people lived.

They met at a party. He seemed to her the most interesting person in her life. She was an aspiring, untalented actress, and he – worked wherever he could. Then he told her about Paris – the city of truly living people. April believed every word Frank said and, like him, wanted to live. When she became pregnant for the first time – they bought a house on a hill in a quiet suburb. After his second child, Frank stopped dreaming. And April still believed that she could drop everything and go to Paris. Forever.

The title of the movie, which appears only at the tenth minute, seems to be a verdict: a couple who always saw themselves as special, who decided to cut the thread that connects them with everyday life, with one sharp movement – they wanted to take a different path. A heavy feeling of being suspended – the move plan sometimes seems like a pipe dream, sometimes a real task from the diary - it allows you to practically feel how desirable this `` escape '', this opportunity to choose.

'Emptiness and Hopelessness' - so they boldly called their hated way of life. The image of the fake world of their personal 50s – gray clone-like clerks, ladies in colored dresses, obligatory meetings with neighbors for a cup of coffee or something stronger. Life flows according to the old channel developed by many generations.

But April dreamed of stopping being only in words a `` special couple '', which in fact is considered a little crazy. She wanted to break free, to find her happiness. Wanted Frank to be with her, so he would also look. And all this in Paris – a city that is a completely different world: free, living, welcoming change with open arms.

'The Road of Change' spreads gradually. First, a dream is born, then it balances on the brink of existence and destruction, and, finally, the very, almost revolutionary scrapping occurs.

Sam Mendes not only revived the Winslet and DiCaprio couple, he also returned to American Beauty, a movie that poses a huge number of questions. Where is happiness? What is it like? Can you not be like everyone else? '' - and does anyone have an answer at all?
