Jim Kenan began his career with a three-point shot in the movie industry. The first movie was produced by Spielberg and Zemeckis, nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film, and finally his House. monster '' twice worked out its budget, which amounted to no less than 75 million dollars. Kenan then turns his back on animation and begins work on the movie adaptation of Amber City. Book One: Escape.

City – the hero of the movie, dark and mysterious, like poor London from the classic novels of Dickens (even if Kenan is an Englishman). Amber's story is based on utopia, which is saved from collapse not by the fear of citizens before the authorities, but by the darkness surrounding them. It is not difficult for townspeople to maintain a sense of hopelessness and resignedly put up with such a life, they have been deep underground for over 200 years.

Lina and Don's parents were friends, together they were looking for a way out to another world full of sun and blue sky. But after an accident that took the life of Lina's father, the search was stopped, and the exit was forgotten. Meanwhile, Amber gradually began to fade: power outages, leaking sewers, lack of food. By chance the children found a metal box with instructions inside it. This is how the hope of finding a way out received its rebirth.

Caroline Thompson wrote the scripts for Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride), perhaps thanks to her, the characters who might seem like unhappy children actually look so confident and knowledgeable. No matter how awkward and lost Edward felt himself - and ndash; there was power in his hands, he knew it. So are Don and Lina, who fully feel the importance of their small discovery, which can lead to a new big world.

The likelihood that there will be two more movies about the city of Amber (and in the original book it is a trilogy) is small. Success bypassed `` City … '' side: for children it can seem very scary (the world of pipes and technical communications resembles a monster – a car from Metropolis), for adults, children – the heroes of the movie are teenagers. Amber's story – it is devoid of fantastic fictions (except, perhaps, the incredible size of insects) and full of adventure – looking for a story about how much you sometimes want to see the sky.
