However, this fact did not frighten Yevgeny Emelin at all, who chose the story of Barabbas - a criminal who was pardoned by the crowd instead of Christ as his directorial debut."Barabbas" tells about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but does it from the point of view of the title character. What happened prompts him to think about whether the Son of God was crucified instead of him? The search for answers eventually leads Barabbas to the fact that he radically changes outlook on life ... The idea to create the film came to Emelin back in 2006, when he got acquainted with the book by Maria Corelli “Barabbas. The Tale of the Times of Christ ”. The director does not hide that what is happening on the screen is mostly fiction, which should push the viewer to philosophical reflections. The picture shows the path of a person from a murderer to a Christian who has found inner harmony, and Jesus here is more of a symbolic image. For the role of Barabbas, Emelin invited Pavel Krainov (Crimea), who had already earned several awards for his performance. Regina Khakimova, Konstantin Samoukov, Elena Podkaminskaya also starred in the drama, and for Albert Filozov the tape became one of the last films in his career. The actor passed away in 2016.
