The title of one of the most frequently screened works of Chinese literature rightfully belongs to Wu Cheng'en's novel Journey to the West. According to Deadline, Shanghai-based animation company Pearl Studio is preparing its interpretation of the 16th century book.The main character of the unnamed cartoon will be the Monkey King. The official announcement of the project about the cult hero of Chinese folklore took place at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival taking place these days. The film will be curated by actor, director and screenwriter Stephen Chow ("Showdown in Kung Fu Style"). “The Monkey King is one of the most famous literary heroes in our history, said Palin Chow, Creative Director of Pearl Studio. -Every Chinese child is familiar with the legends of his adventures.
