How the Harvard prisoners got into an argument

Image Film Company Warner Bros. will tell viewers about a fun game of debate between teams of Harvard University students and prison inmates in New York State. According to Deadline, the Hollywood studio is starting work on an as-yet-untitled film about the so-called Bard College Prison Initiative.

In 1995, the US government stopped providing financial support for educational programs for prisoners. As a result, just ten years later, the number of American prisons that cooperate with higher education institutions has decreased by more than twenty times. This situation seriously worried the leadership of the prestigious liberal arts college Bard, which decided to create its own training program for convicts. To date, more than three hundred inmates from six New York prisons have been involved in it.

In 2013, the members of the Prison Initiative opened their own discussion club. Two years later, they challenged Harvard students, who had become world debating champions the year before, to an intellectual duel. During the competition, the prisoners were so eloquent and convincing in their arguments that the judges awarded the victory to their team.

The script for the film will be written by Kay Oyegun, a member of the main writing group for This Is Us, and will be produced by Academy Award-nominated Andrew Lazar (Sniper).
