The prize was named in honor of the 85-year-old comedian Carol Burnett, who became its first owner. Focus Features has acquired the film rights to Burnett's memoir Carrie and Me. The book received rave reviews in the press, and its audio version earned a Grammy nomination. In her work, Carol talked about the path to fame and success through the prism of relationships with her daughter Carrie.

Carol Burnett has starred in many popular TV series and TV shows, won five Golden Globes and six Emmy Awards, received a personalized star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and became one of America's main favorites. Many fans of the actress's talent never suspected that she amused millions of viewers even at those moments when terrible events took place in her life.

At a young age, the eldest daughter Burnett became addicted to drugs. The actress arranged for Carrie in a specialized hospital, where she finally managed to defeat addiction. A common misfortune brought mother and daughter closer together. Having become best friends, they began to help people with alcohol and drug addiction. In 1988, Carol and Carrie visited Moscow to open the first branch of Alcoholics Anonymous in the USSR.

Unfortunately, at the start of the 21st century, the Burnett family faced new misfortunes. Carrie was diagnosed with lung cancer, which began to metastasize to the brain. Carol Burnett's daughter died on January 20, 2002 at the age of 38.

The actress's memoirs will be adapted by brothers Ian and Ash Nelms ("Crime in a Small Town"), and Carol Burnett's comedy colleague Tina Fey, who has won nine Emmy awards, will produce the film.
