According to Deadline, the British company Playground Entertainment has snatched the rights to film adaptation of Imogen Gower's book "The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock" from the hands of competitors.At one time, the debut work of an English writer aroused interest from ten leading world publishing houses at once. As a result, Gower received a six-figure advance from Vintage. The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock hit bookstores in the UK in mid-January and immediately made it to The Sunday Times Bestseller List. The novel is set in 1785. One fine day, the captain of one of his merchant ships appears on the doorstep of the home of a prosperous London businessman, John Hancock. The sailor confesses that he gave the ship and all its cargo in exchange for a mysterious girl with a fish tail instead of legs. This news is rapidly flying around the British capital and opens up the road to high society for Hancock. At one of the social events, he meets the irresistible courtesan Angela Neal. Jonah does not yet suspect that this meeting will change his life forever ...  According to insiders, the Playground Entertainment management has not yet decided on the format of the bestseller adaptation. The young company does not yet have experience in big cinema, but it can boast of good success in the field of creating TV series.
