Review of the movie Model Male 2. Magnum

"An Exemplary Male" came out fifteen years ago, showed very mediocre box office fees, but later proved that unique in nature, sarcastic, but clever comedies are popular with viewers at home. Exemplary Male # 2 tries to do what the sequels are designed to do: fly to new heights, weave more action, more jokes, more drama into the plot. However, instead of all of the above, Ben Stiller and his team are falling like a stone, presenting to the audience a not funny, superficial and, unlike the first part, a nominally stupid movie.

Undoubtedly, a significant part of the action is now developing in Rome and the camera from time to time catches local sights, adding scale, but not significance to another parody of modern fashion. On a technical level, the sequel is great, much better than the original, even brighter and more unusual.

The problem is that Stiller repeats what has already been said in the first movie not in terms of the plot, but in terms of the message, through the use of cliched or simply not funny gags that almost never cause even the slightest reaction in the audience. “ Exemplary Male # 2 ” not much different in quality from such phenomena as “ House with paranormal phenomena ” or `` Fifty Shades of Black '', which do not so much ridicule the phenomena of modern culture as openly cash in on them.

The sequel was draining compared to the original. Familiar heroes return in the form of Derek (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson), as well as the villain Mugatu and Will Ferrell, who, with his antics, makes a comeback. there is a suspicion that it was often improvised - in fact, stole the entire movie. New characters are added in the form of Penelope Cruz, who lacks any understanding of the comedy genre, and Kristen Wiig. The character Wiig got interesting, absurd and therefore often funny. Her scenes made watching the movie less deadly boring.

In general, you already saw a movie about rivalry in the world of haute couture fifteen years ago and return to its copy, the script for which it feels like Derek Zulander wrote himself is not worth the full ticket price. Stiller lost his soul in the sequel. You can clearly see how inspiration left him by the number of unsuccessful attempts to joke, which at a certain stage begin to annoy him specifically. Only Benedict Cumberbatch's cameo was engraved in memory for a long time, and everything else was invented obviously for the sake of earning money.

It is very difficult to sit through this sucked, insane spectacle, jumping between completely different ideas in order to somehow stretch yourself to the expected 100 minutes. It's best not to even try unless you are an exclusive fan of the first movie. And under the term `` exceptional '' it means the level at which you are ready to look at Derek Zulander endlessly, no matter what he gets up to. Everyone else stay crying – not from laughter, from grief – home again. After all, “ Exemplary male # 2 ” is the epitomy of a video release, an unbridled, wild and not very entertaining spectacle that puts the interests of the creators above the interests of the audience.
