Review of the movie Visit. Hansel and Gretel Shyamalan

So many beautiful things about love have been written and continue to be written by great thinkers, writers and philosophers from all over the world, but M. Night Shyamalan does not seem to share their thoughts. Quite a lot is said about love in "The Visit", but Shyamalan's conversation about it with the audience turned out to be much more dramatic and serious than one might expect. The return of a famous thriller to a low-budget movie entitled “ Visit ” and produced by the now popular horror genre Jason Bloom, it turned out very similar to a scary parable, in the spirit of an incredible way reminiscent of the fairy tale `` Hansel and Gretel '' brothers Grimm (up to the girl climbing into the stove). Rest assured, however, that even if you are familiar with the latter, Shyamalan will still be able to surprise you. As always, he has a couple of aces tucked up his sleeve for the third act.

Despite this, what came out so refreshing in `` Visit '' is just the organicity of Shyamalan's signature twist at the end and the ability of history to function without it. Even without the final “ wow ” factor, “ Visit ” turned out to be an unexpectedly warm movie about family values, emotional and down-to-earth enough not to let the viewer feel the entire inconsistency of the story.

Yes, even if Shyamalan thought over a lot, and at first glance it may seem that all the pieces of the puzzle are perfect come together, logical holes are not that hard to spot in the plot. However, even these small inconsistencies do not give a “ Visit ” fall apart. He is very tightly glued together by humor, which literally overflows the movie. But this is also good, because humor compensates for failure on the other front -; actually horror stories. After all, “ Visit ” - it's still more of a thriller than a horror, no matter how much he tries to be the last. But the thriller is one that many may find quite slow and boring at first. The main thing here is not to despair and trust the history and its rather poor atmosphere.

Shyamalan's atmosphere really didn't work out very well. The fault here, however, rather lies with his choice to use the genre of the found movie. Even if this move turned out to be quite reasonable (it even had its role in history), but its forced uninteresting visual style and only one interesting musical decision, paradoxically combining anxiety with solemnity, does not allow enjoying history to the fullest. The result is a preponderance towards artificiality, not art.

Also unlike Shyamalan's latest directorial experiences “ Visit ” has a great cast of actors: Ed Oxenbuld and Olivia DeJonge masterfully deconstruct sibling's caring and teasing each other. Oxenbuld is also very funny, but at the same time, his character is complex and quite complex, like his sister, which makes them ideal protagonists. It is easy, fun and sometimes a little creepy to follow them, because you always have some special worries about the children, especially when the actors are so good.

Katherine Khan, who played the mother of the main characters, also proved to be an amazing actress , very subtle in its game full of nuances. And her task was not an easy one: it is not at all easy to combine a slight childish stupidity with the drama that has followed her from her teenage years and sincere love and care for children. How Han did it remains a mystery, and the result looks truly great.

In conclusion, it should be said that “ Visit ” not overloaded with morality, but it is present in it, and a warm emotional message at the end leaves a pleasant aftertaste from this modern fairy tale, after which you will think more than once before sending your children to grandparents on vacation. But we can safely say that Shyamalan returned to form. Yes, he still has something to work on, but even if he continues in this spirit, we are all provided with a high-quality entertainment movie.

One small note: if you are an anxious person, you should know that in the “ Visit ” there are a number of scenes of a very disgusting nature (but none of this is related to blood) that may distort some.
