Independence Day. Review of ”Full Raskolbas”

Image After the advertisement of the new cartoon, written by Seth Rogen , only the most courageous or stupid person will take their child to the cinema. The creators of the animated film blatantly trumpeted through trailers and posters that their creation was intended exclusively for adults. At the same time, " Full raskolbas " is so cheeky that not even every adult can endure an hour and a half food orgy, since the form with which the creators decided to express their thoughts is too daring.

In the modern world, the concept of an adult cartoon is primarily associated with American television. Such projects are rarely done for wide distribution. And everyone knows the loudest TV cartoons: be it the ruthless satire of South Park ( South Park ), the brightly liberal American Daddy! ( American Dad! ) or the legendary (and against the background of the two previous shows - the most conservative) "The Simpsons" ( The Simpsons ). However, if you pay attention not only to vulgar jokes, each of these cartoons reflects the view of their creators on society as a whole and on all its components. That is, they became cartoons for adults not only because of jokes and plots intended exclusively for adults, but precisely because of the themes and meanings discussed through the prism of animation.

Nevertheless, the very definition of "for adults" often evokes the standard rejection of the ordinary viewer, since he, the viewer, first of all associates this characteristic not with the complexity of the topics raised, not even with obscenities and violence, but with outright obscenity that accompanies such projects ... “ Full of rascals ”, unfortunately, turned out to be a film where obscenity comes to the fore, and behind it, as if in the back of a supermarket shelf, there is a swing on an important topic and the metaphoric nature of the whole story about the adventures of animated products.

And there would be nothing terrible: after all, greasy humor is an old artistic device that is found not only in folk art, but also in classical literary works. Let the two main characters - the sausage Fred ( Seth Rogen ) and the bun Brenda (Kristen Wiig) - seem to be created for each other, eager to merge in ecstasy uniting their bodies into a new sacred state. That is, a hot dog.

But most of the humor in the film is devoted to carnal interactions, and here lies the main problem of " Raskolbas ". Humor as a medicine against despondency, as a way to speak the hard-hitting truth in person, must be really funny. Then he will veil the truth, and teach you to treat problems and troubles more easily, and justify all the obscenity. And " Full raskolbas " is not as funny as it tries to be, which, in principle, is already a verdict on a comedy project. What's more, we've recently seen movies, nominally not comedies, much funnier than product adventures. Perhaps the movie was badly spoiled by the USA dubbing, where the English obscene vocabulary was replaced by puns that played on the nature of the characters. One of them - a real model and example - is even displayed in the title, and the characters, once again threatening someone to"kick off", do not even cause a smile. Usually such jokes are called school jokes, but I think this is not funny now even for middle school students. It is surprising that one of the most sparkling episodes of the cartoon was its finale, insane in its obscenity. It is in the final scene that you can see how the story could have turned out if everything were perfect.

On the whole, " Full Raskolbas " plays on a long-explored field of fabulously animated, humanized things or animals. He seems to be making fun of modern animation, starting with its progenitor - "Toy Story" - and ending with "The Secret Life of Pets" still running in cinemas. Here people play the most important role, as in the above examples (in contrast to the same "Zootopia", where anthropomorphic animals replace the human world), but exactly the opposite. They are not caring owners, but gods who turn out to be ancient bloodthirsty mythological creatures.

The products from the supermarket shelves consider the perishable existence on the store shelf only a stage of life: their dreams are directed towards the light-flooded automatic compartment doors, obviously symbolizing the light at the end of the tunnel. The gods (that is, people) must sooner or later take them to themselves, to that better world, the presence of which is supported by legends wandering through the gastronomic and grocery departments. The daily morning food prayer is dedicated to the gods - a funny song and dance number, as if from a musical, - glorifying the wisdom and greatness of supernatural visitors to their mortal world. Woe to those who are not chosen by the gods - they will face endless darkness and oblivion of the trash can for expired goods.

The grocery utopia is destroyed by one of the characters, who has returned from the other world. The can of mustard will return to the supermarket shelf and try to tell his comrades that the gods simply eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and that each of them will suffer painful death - they are just a victim, rejoicing that the sacrifice will soon come. Naturally, no one wants to believe in the terrible truth, and the adventures of the main characters will begin with the fact that they fall out of a basket of groceries.

Image

We must pay tribute to the creators, who beautifully divided the story into three storylines that develop in parallel. Fred and Brenda travel the store trying to get back to their shelves and still get to the gods; sausage Barry finds himself in the world of people, where he sees with his own eyes how ridiculous their hopes for the afterlife were; and one more character will be able to return from the underworld (overdue warehouse) to take revenge on everyone. On their way, there will be no less prominent heroes like the lesbian Teresa del Taco (Salma Hayek), the wise men of this world (products with no expiration date), lavash and bagel, obviously symbolizing the relationship between Arabs and Jews.

Image

Traveling through both worlds, the heroes learn where the legend of the all-powerful gods and a happy afterlife came from, learn a lot about themselves and people, understand not only that the afterlife does not exist, but that the gods are mortal. In fact, the whole " Full raskolbas " is an atheistic statement, the heroes of which not only stopped believing the authorities' word, but also gave battle to the gods themselves. It is no coincidence that the events of the cartoon take place on the eve of July 4, and the scene of a happy final orgy crowns the God-fighting story, clearly demonstrating that hedonism is all that remains for products that have learned the truth of life.

Image

It turns out that " Complete Raskolbas " is not an empty piece in the style of "something for adults" without any message. He scoffs at religion, at stupidity and unreasonable belief in authorities, at a variety of stereotypes, at the very animation about things that come to life and humanized animals; even over oneself - in the end, the products will reveal (not without the help of special substances) another secret - they are just an illusion, characters drawn on the cinema screen.

It is humor that is the main problem of the " Complete disagreement ". Using gourmet metaphors, this cartoon is not a very appetizing product in attractive packaging. The viewer, of course, will not be poisoned, but he will not really be able to enjoy.
