Review of the cartoon Turbo. Step on the gas!

Looks like DreamWorks has decided to rely on newbies. Apparently, in the hope of fresh blood with its fresh approach, the studio bosses gave the new full-length project into the hands of, to put it mildly, not the most experienced moviemakers; David Soren, Darren Lemke and Robert D. Siegel boast only a few projects that are not always successful. And, I must say, they really brought something unusual into their creation – which ultimately helped to become the `` Turbo '' an excellent cartoon.

First of all, of course, this is a concept: an ultra-fast snail taking part in the largest competition of racing cars of the New World on a par with human participants – this is really unusual even for animation. And also cool, and fun, and exciting, and generally atas! Promotional materials could not give even a rough idea of how it all looks in the cartoon itself, especially closer to the final. All this light absurdity, in which the president of the Indy 500 with a serious face talks about participating in clam races, gives the `` Turbo '' some kind of special charm.

Another feature – with a purely nominal villain, the cartoon does not turn into a sugary fairy tale about overcoming oneself and believing in one's loved ones. The conflict is more based on the relationship of the characters, while not a bit depressing the viewer, as is often the case, but only moves the plot forward, to new heights and horizons - – in all senses. All this turns into one continuous adventure, the heroes of which do not sit still; they strive for movement, there is a constant change of scene, new faces bring new colors, so that as a result the script is fully consistent with the stated theme. Speed, movement only forward – the whole cartoon is imbued with it, its atmosphere, its spirit consists of it.

Also, as befits the projects of one of the largest Hollywood suppliers of animation, it is incredibly colorful, not to mention the quality of the picture itself. Excellent graphics reveal themselves more and more every minute, starting with a small garden of a private house, the homeland of the main characters, and ending with a track in Indianopolis. What's even more amazing is – since we are talking about a cartoon – stereoscopy looks very good in it, even good, even though the dynamics allowed the authors to use it with a calm soul and a clear conscience.

Separately, a few words should be said about the age rating – The MPAA's recommended presence of parents really justifies itself. Here they laugh at the unenviable fate of snails stolen by crows, here a creepy lawn mower strives to turn the main character into a dead hero, not to mention the final race, in which everything is not going as smoothly as it seems at first, and where the tension grows with every second. On the other hand, the reluctance of the authors in controversial moments to make concessions to the audience not only commands respect, but also makes the cartoon much better. Well, at least it's more interesting.

But the most important thing here is – exactly the characters. They are all, without exception, adorable, each – in their own way. Starting with the Mexican brothers, so different, but so touching, through minor acquaintances and occasional people, and ending with Turbo's fellow party snails. Bright, colorful, each of them, even occasionally flickering in the frame, is recalled afterwards with warm, pleasant feelings. Not taking the little rider seriously at first, they, nevertheless, willingly help him, believe in him, even when questions of material benefit fade into the background. And with this they cause genuine sympathy.

In the end, several practically newcomers – the director is generally a debutant in feature movies – managed together to create something worthy of the fame and reputation of DreamWorks. " Turbo " – the cartoon is bright, inspiring, beautiful and captivating with its impudent and uncompromising approach. Soren was not afraid to lightly experiment with the plot – and made the right decision by giving us a fascinating and crazy story about a racing snail. A story after which the soul becomes joyful and warm. And it's worth a lot.
