Japanese conglomerate SoftBank is in talks to acquire Hollywood studio DreamWorks Animation. The Hollywood Reporter reported, citing its sources, with an estimated cost of $ 3.4 billion. SoftBank is said to be willing to pay $ 32 per share for DreamWorks Animation, while its market value at the start of negotiations did not exceed $ 22 per share.

According to the terms of the contract, the founder and CEO of DreamWorks Animation, Jeffrey Katzenberg, will remain on his post for another five years. Representatives of the parties have so far refused to comment on this topic.

Recall that the animation division of DreamWorks studio became an independent public company in 2004. In recent years, 20th Century Fox has been distributing her movie projects.

Many famous cartoons have been released under the DreamWorks Animation brand, in particular, the Shrek quadrilogy. 2014 was not a very good year for the company, as its animation project The Adventures of Mr. Peabody and Sherman earned only $ 273 million. The cartoon How to Train Your Dragon 2, which grossed more than $ 600 million at the worldwide box office, fared slightly better.

The third part of this popular cartoon is due out in 2017.
