David Duchovny joins the cast of Phantom directed by Todd Robinson. The movie will take place during the Cold War on board a Soviet nuclear submarine.

According to Variety, Duchovny will play the commander of a special forces unit entrusted with some top secret mission.

The movie will also feature starring Ed Harris and Duchovny's colleague on the TV series Californication Natasha McElhone. Filming will begin in October 2011 in California.

Earlier it was reported that the plot will be built around the captain of the Soviet nuclear submarine, who leaves his pregnant wife at home to go to the ocean on a secret mission of the party and government.
