Review of the movie Four Christmases. Alone in the house

The heroes of Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, Brad and Kate, are forced to spend at once `` Four Christmases '' one foggy day. They will visit various relatives and congratulate each of them `` Happy New Year. '' Solyanka from all sorts of plot twists, so characteristic of New Year's movies, seasoned with classic jokes that have already become mixed in one picture – here is, in fact, a simple recipe that Seth Gordon decided not to back down from. Following the plot, the following conclusion suggests itself: it is difficult to survive the holidays when your parents are divorced. Simply because the number of mandatory visits to loved ones will be multiplied by two.

The main characters, in revenge for their prolific relatives, created their own small democratic family: they are equal, relatively independent and do not plan to limit each other's freedom by having children or by entering into marriage. Slightly cynical, but very realistic. Although sentimentality cannot be taken away from the heroes, especially when they begin to quarrel and think with horror that they can lose each other. The pair of Brad and Kate is interesting from the outside: tiny Reese Witherspoon, against which Vaughn looks like a bully from the tale of Jack and the bean tree.

Since the movie `` Four Christmases '' after all, it's New Year's, then a great many templates have gathered in it. First and foremost: the family members of the protagonist collect oddities in their house, and completely unnatural cockroaches in their heads. This is followed by meetings with nephews, perplexing adults, shouting inappropriately about things that others keep quiet about.
And, of course, the fat camp, in which the heroine Witherspoon spent her childhood. Brothers and sisters Brad or Kate must have children, and a lot. They shove babies into the arms of a childless couple, which is so logical in such a comedy.

The movie is practically devoid of vulgarity and even carries some ideas. For example: you need to talk about problems out loud. Or: family – it is very important. Breezy, but very accessible, all hidden messages are found in the beholder of their addressee. However, from the Christmas comedy, you expect more happy smiles in which snowballs are flying, or adventures with gifts under the Christmas tree. Therefore, watching a rather restrained, slightly ironic story about relationships becomes less interesting.
