The Hobbit Creators Rejected Union Claims

New Line, Warner Bros. and MGM Studios Contributing to The Hobbit Dilogy came out with a united front against the seven largest acting unions, which recommended their members to stop movieing in New Zealand. According to an official press release, studio executives, like Peter Jackson, see this action as an attempt at a power struggle.

`` There can be no collective bargaining over this New Zealand production, since the very fact of such negotiations would have caused sanctions from the government of that country. The likelihood of this development was explained to the trade union association. We are disappointed that the association continues to insist on its own, '' the statement said.

Recall that earlier the producer of The Hobbit had sharply criticized the joint action of the trade unions Peter Jackson. He described it as an attempt to “take a bite of the juicy pie” that the New Zealand movie industry is now, and threatened to move production to Eastern Europe.
