Seven of the largest actors' unions in the US, UK, Canada and Australia have banned their members from acting in the Hobbit dilogy in New Zealand. According to a September 26 statement, the project's producers have refused to contract the actors on the terms proposed by the unions.

“For many years, actors have been forced to work in New Zealand on contracts that do not meet union standards. These agreements provide actors with a minimum of guarantees and do not stipulate working conditions. They also do not provide for the payment of additional remuneration and compensation in the event of termination of movie production, '' the statement said.

All actors are advised to refrain from concluding separate contracts and to immediately notify union officials if the producers of The Hobbit apply. with job offers.

A joint statement was signed by the heads of the following trade unions: Canadian Actors Association, Screen Actors Guild of the United States (SAG), British Actors Association, American Federation of Television and Radio Actors, Australian Entertainment and Arts Alliance, Canadian Alliance actors of movie, television and radio.

The heads of the trade unions hope that all controversial issues will be resolved in the process of additional negotiations with the moviemakers.
