Director Doug Lyman, who directed such famous movies as The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, rescued the shipwreck participants. According to THR, the incident took place at around 1 am on August 5, when Lyman and his friend, producer Abraham Ludwig, were aboard a speedboat sailing down a river in the New York area. Before their eyes, a large dry cargo ship rammed a motor boat in which there were several people.

The cargo ship did not stop, as no one on board noticed the collision. The director immediately directed his boat to the collision site. According to Lyman, he did not expect that someone would survive in this disaster, but found four passengers on the boat, calling for help.

All victims were taken to the nearest hospital.
