Warner Bros. Film Company intends to make a movie about one of the most famous sea disasters - the sinking of the cruiser Indianapolis, which occurred in the summer of 1945. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be produced by Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan.

The movie will be based on the real story of Hunter Scott, who in 1996, when he was only 11 years old, became interested in the history of the cruiser. conducted his own research, as a result of which in 2000 the captain of the ship Charles McVeigh, at one time convicted by a military tribunal and committed suicide, was fully acquitted by the US Congress. The dramatic story of the shipwreck will be told in the movie on behalf of Scott.

Recall that the heavy cruiser of the US Navy Indianapolis, carrying out a top-secret mission of delivering parts of the first atomic bomb, was torpedoed in the ocean by a Japanese submarine on July 30, 1945. Of the 1200 people on board, 300 drowned along with the ship. About 800 people were in the water and soon became objects of hunting for sharks that gathered at the crash site. The sailors spent five days in the ocean. When help arrived, only 316 crew members survived.

Whether Robert Downey will play in the movie is yet to be confirmed.
