The list of movies recommended by the Vatican for viewing for all Catholics was replenished with John Landis's movie The Blues Brothers, released in 1980. The official press organ of the Holy See, the newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, informed the faithful about this.

In the movie, in which the main roles were played by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, it was about two brothers Elwood and Jake Blues, reviving their disbanded band and going on tour to earn money to save the orphanage in which they grew up.

The movie also starred many blues stars, such as Cab Calloway, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and others. The episodic role was played by Steven Spielberg.
