Chris Hemsworth will star in the movie adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick's In the Heart of the Sea, based on true events. This is reported by the resource Deadline.
The action takes place in 1820. The fragile whaling ship Essex was attacked by a giant sperm whale and sank. The surviving crew members are cut off from their homes by hundreds of miles of water and forced to fight for their lives. They stayed at sea for 90 days, and after this dramatic journey only eight people survived.
Charles Levitt, who previously worked on the plot of the movie Blood Diamond, will adapt the novel for the screen. The shooting and premiere schedules have not yet been specified.
