Review of the movie Hitman: Agent 47. A pistol to his temple

On the part of Fox, it has become a very non-trivial decision to entrust the writing of the script for the re-adaptation of the famous game “ Hitman ” the same person who wrote the first full-length adaptation eight years ago, which was practically destroyed by critics and viewers alike. If the infamous Skip Woods has proven anything, however, it is that Agent 47 has never been figured out over the years. The main evidence that the creators did not succeed again is the fact that the plot about the superintelligent agent literally crumbles before our eyes because of its own idiocy.

An elementary example: it is intelligible to explain what the Hitman is about: Agent 47 "tells it really well and won't work. The title character is looking for the girl he was ordered to, but other villains find her first, and then our hero decides to team up with her to find his other “ order ”. This is how he gradually, towards the end, acquires a semblance of humanity, allowing him to do the `` right '' life decisions. That is, Skip Woods decided that the best way to correct the sins of the previous movie was to turn the plot of the new one into a minefield of logical holes and combinations of the incompatible, while at the same time weighed down bows to the game in absolutely unrealistic action scenes that deny all the laws of physics, but persistently turn the killer into a good guy.

Everything would be fine, but the main problem is that, for all the absurdity of most dialogues, for some reason they make the main emphasis, trying to turn the adaptation of a computer game into a drama about anarchy over one's own destiny. So the end result is a rather dull movie with a lot of running around, but a lack of bloody fights and a disappointing ending in which imaginary suspense replaces all the action. What can we say about the lack of any humor.

The script is not saved by the new director under the name Bach. He traded every sense of style for a cool effect that can't be achieved with a $ 35 million budget. However, sometimes – very rare – he manages to engage the viewer in the pace of chases and shootings, although it is likely that the co-director of John Wick, who directed the second movie crew here, is much more responsible for the success of the latter. And some of the fights do impress with their own ingenuity and atypical elegance, which turns duels into a dance with death. Again, shooting each other has never looked so exciting.

Still, there are too few such successful moments in the movie to make you forget about the plot. Therefore, the main joy quickly becomes the play of Rupert Friend (Agent 47) and Hannah Ware (Katya), who complement each other in a very interesting way, while never yielding to each other. And if Frend gets more hand-to-hand fighting, then the story focuses more on Ware, which will surely make fans of the game bite their elbows. The main value of Ware's heroine is that she feels an approaching threat (of course, only when the scriptwriter needs it), but this ability is not only never explained by the creators, but is used by them exclusively in their own interests. Thus, the potential of such an ability turns out to be buried along with all plans for a sequel.

Interestingly, against the background of Friend and Ware, such veterans as Kiaran Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann completely pale, and Zachary Quinto is hardly remembered. And even more curiously, in one of the scenes, you can clearly see Rupert Friend fighting with Quinto's stunt double, which, combined with disgusting visual effects, finally convinces the creators of the inability to make even an ordinary action movie. Against the background of the absolute nonsense that at least half of the movie seems to be, the best music sounds as always: ordinary, but at least well-made (not in vain, director Bach).

As a result, “ Hitman: Agent 47 ” became another disappointment joined the camp of failed adaptations of popular video games. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill bad movie that definitely isn't worthy of any attention. If the first attempt to transfer "Hitman" to the big screen was stupid, but exciting, then the second turned out to be even more stupid, much more uneven and criminally boring, if not tiring.
