Review of the movie Alien Invasion: The Battle of Los Angeles. Retreat? Damn it!

Before the release of the movie `` Alien Invasion: The Battle of Los Angeles '' called the more expensive version of Skyline - a movie with disgusting characters, lack of plot and overly artificial visuals. It was assumed that this movie will follow the same path, only these same effects will be a little better and more spectacular. However, after viewing it becomes clear that all these predictions and fears, fortunately, are not destined to come true.

Water – one of the most valuable resources on our planet, especially for one alien race, whose technology works just on water. And now, on one far from the most joyful day for mankind, a mysterious extraterrestrial civilization invades the Earth and cleans it of local residents with frightening speed. The plot centers around one battlefield: Los Angeles, where a platoon of Marines is trying to defend the city at huge losses.

The creators of the picture break a long tradition of the genre and instead of narrating from civilians trying to escape in the general chaos, they let us into the very heat, demonstrating what is happening on behalf of the military, who, on the contrary, need not retreat, but defend themselves. This is a very fresh move, which, for some reason, no one dared to take before.

The plot itself is somewhat standard (no shocking twists are expected), but by no means stupid. Everything that happens looks very realistic and atmospheric. It is especially pleasing that even though the finale hints at a possible continuation, nevertheless, the story looks complete and complete, rather than ending at the most interesting place (as in the aforementioned Skyline). In spirit, the movie is a hell of a lot like Black Hawk Down. Ridley Scott, only aliens are here instead of the Somalis.

Most importantly: the plot is not devoid of dramatic notes. The death of this or that character is really depressing and adds even more tension to the tape. Despite the extremely dense dynamics of the narrative, because of which, at first, it is difficult to remember the characters, unless only by brief characteristics (this one is quitting, this one is pregnant, and this one is just about to get married), by the middle of the movie you get used to the main characters and sincerely empathize with them. That's why it's even a little sad, that the writers do not spare their heroes and many of them will not be destined to reach the end.

Of course, individually, hardly any of them can be called a deeply written character, but together, they all look very lively. The acting also raises no objections. Each was exactly in its place and looked organically in its own image. By itself, the cast is not the most stellar (except Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez can be called famous) for the 100 millionth blockbuster, which only adds suspense to it: you immediately notice for yourself that the `` untouchables ''; no and absolutely any hero can die, even the one who, according to the tradition of the genre, is never killed for a more sensual happy ending.

But the plot is the plot, the characters are characters, and most viewers go to such movies, primarily for the sake of the picture. And the Battle of Los Angeles there is something to demonstrate to the craving for spectacles. Local brawls with aliens look incredibly powerful, driving and not at all artificial. Computer graphics do not hurt the eye, and street shootings do not give off second-rate or cheapness, on the contrary, they impress with their rigidity and uncompromising attitude. The movie is generally perceived not as an empty blockbuster with funny explosions and humor, but as a real, serious military thriller.

So, without expecting it at all, we got a great fantastic blockbuster with a strong bias towards the drama. And even if the pathos in a couple of moments was really too much, how can the warriors do without it? Otherwise it is of high quality,
