Review of the movie Bridget Jones 3. Monumental melodrama (Topic)

Bridget Jones 3 is not inventing anything new, but like all other romantic comedies, this is not the task for her. When buying a ticket for this cute, hardly unique portrait of an unmarried forty-year-old woman, everyone already knows what to expect. To some, all this will seem boring, stupid and lusciously sweet, while to others it will be enchantingly fun, melancholy sad and surprisingly vital. There can be no doubt about one thing: this movie was made with amazing quality, from clever script to attentive direction to excellent acting.

A strong anchor of the now trilogy, Renee Zellweger, albeit very changed in appearance, has not lost drops of former innocence and naive impulsiveness. She remains a heroine with whom it is amazingly easy to associate herself with women and quite possibly some men. There is no shame in this. Everyone gets a little lonely. Everyone makes small mistakes that have big consequences. And this is that energy, that unbending desire to be happy, with which Zellweger fills the movie, and in the end it remains with the viewer after watching.

This feeling of simplicity, however, is accompanied by a quite rich story with many turns of events (not to say that definitely unexpected), due to which the plot looks complete and complete, and the heroes go through metamorphoses visible to the naked eye. It all starts with the calm, lonely birthday of Bridget Jones, who is sad about the lonely cake and the significant number on the cake that her work colleagues gave her. Everything develops into a love triangle with the impeccably serious Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) and the rich man Jack (Patrick Dempsey) devoid of any drama. Leads this triangle to pregnancy and charmingly thick-skinned Dr. Rowling performed by the radiant Emma Thompson (who, by the way, had a hand in the script and did not forget to attribute all the best jokes to herself). It all twists into such a noble tangle of misunderstanding that it is impossible not to sympathize with Zellweger's heroine.

Fortunately, the movie is full of ups and downs that make you laugh loudly and quietly sad in the darkness of the auditorium, but the main thing is to stay interested in the story even when certain events make the movie's flight heavy and slow it down significantly. Despite the fact that "Bridget Jones 3" lasts only two hours, for a romantic comedy this is still too much. Time literally becomes tangible. Therefore, this is not a movie that is like a coffee run before work. He gives off a certain monumentality, which at the same time gives him seriousness, but deprives him of that comedic lightness inherent in most romantic comedies. It's a full-blown emotional adventure that deliberately leans towards drama.

This would be a drama, if not for all those hilarious situations that Bridget gets into. In them, the writers show not only a remarkably sophisticated, British sense of humor, but also a certain sophistication in the problems of our time. Thompson with Helen Fielding and Dan Mather comment on everything from Pussy Riot to reconciliation and acceptance of minority groups. Everything that the creators say in this movie, if not in words, so in actions, is topical and acute social issues, which makes the movie more significant than another story about the search for love.

Moreover, the dialogues in this the movie has a simplicity that helps the perception of the material, and the depth with which people saturate their phrases every day without even thinking about it. Played by a whole galaxy of British actors, including, in addition to Firth and Thompson, Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones, the script comes to life and seems so selflessly sincere and optimistic that it is positively touching.

Combined with a very well-planned directing for a romantic comedy, beautiful plans, sometimes striking with their subtle elegance, and a very successful selection of soundtracks, "Bridget Jones 3" undoubtedly continues the tradition of the two previous movies and gives a pleasant rest from everyday life, facilitating it with a sea of laughter and innocence, which so captivates. Those predisposed to the material will get tremendous pleasure from the movie, but even skeptics can safely recommend Bridget Jones 3 for a lazy autumn evening after a hard day.
