RealD, the largest US manufacturer of stereoscopic movie playback and viewing technologies, plummeted 15 percent after Sony Pictures announced that it would no longer compensate distributors for the use of 3D glasses. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The National Association of Theater Owners has already called on the studio to “reconsider a decision that could change the entire business model of renting stereoscopic projects.”

At the same time time, many analysts support this step, as they believe that the existing subsidy system is not viable and unprofitable for moviemakers.

Recall that Sony intends to stop paying compensation from May 1, 2012.<
