Actor Pedro Pascal, known to viewers for his role as Prince Oberin Martell from the Game of Thrones TV series, has joined the cast of Ben-Hur, which will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov. According to the publication Deadline, he got the role of the procurator of Judea Pontius Pilate.

Gal Gadot, Jack Houston, Toby Kebbell, Morgan Freeman and other actors will also star in the movie. Filming is expected to begin in early 2015 with an eye on the premiere on February 26, 2016.

Recall that the Roman horseman Pontius Pilate was the Roman prefect in occupied Judea during the years when Jesus Christ preached there. It is noteworthy that until the middle of the 20th century, there was no evidence of its existence, except for biblical stories and references in the works of Roman historians. However, in 1961, archaeologists found a fragment of a slab dating from the first century AD, on which Pilate was mentioned as the governor of Rome in Judea.

The painting will be based on the work of Lew Wallace. It takes place at the beginning of the first century AD, and the plot is built around the Jewish prince Judas Ben Hur, who, due to the betrayal of a friend, becomes a slave in Roman galleys, and then, thanks to coincidence, the successor of a Roman nobleman. He returns to his homeland to take revenge on his abuser and find his missing mother and sisters.
