Alien was supposed to be a horror movie
The famous fantasy project of Steven Spielberg " Alien " originally planned as a low-budget horror movie. ComicBookResources explains this. After the resounding success of Close Encounters of the Third Degree, it is alleged that Columbia Pictures studio persuaded the director to shoot a sequel, but Spielberg was not interested in the sequel, and instead he conceived a movie in which this time the aliens were not friends, but enemies of the earthlings. The original concept, called Night heaven " was based on a well-known incident in Kentucky in the mid-1950s. A family of local farmers then claimed that they had become the target of persecution by aliens. As planned by Spielberg, the action was also supposed to take place on a remote farm, whose owners are terrorized by aliens endowed with psychic abilities. One of them, the least aggressive, established a telepathic connection with the autistic son of the owner of the farm and eventually forced his brothers to end the siege. By the time the draft script was completed, Spielberg was already movieing Indiana Jones: In Search of the Lost ark. '' He showed the text to Harrison Ford's girlfriend Melissa Mattison, who later became the actor's wife. The latter was so moved by the boy's friendship with an alien that Spielberg decided to completely change the concept and instructed Mattison to prepare a new version of the script.
