Discovery Channel and the BBC will provide viewers with the opportunity to literally be among the penguins. According to The Hollywood Reporter, for his movie Penguins: Waddle All the Way director John Downer used animatronic cameras camouflaged as real penguins.

John Downer is known for his innovative methods of capturing wildlife using spy cameras. For the new project, the director developed new Spycams cameras, with the help of which he shot a movie about the life of three types of penguins: emperor penguins in Antarctica, penguins from the Falkland Islands and Humboldt penguins living in Peru.

Using animatronic cameras that look like real penguins and remote controlled, the movie crew managed to penetrate the very heart of the colony and record the behavior of birds from completely new angles. More than 50 cameras in the form of adults, chicks and even eggs made it possible to capture penguins both on land and in water without causing them any trouble. According to the crew, many of the real birds showed great interest and friendliness towards their artificial brethren.

The movie Penguins: Waddle All the Way premiered. will take place on the BBC on 7 December 2013.
