Review of the cartoon Penguins of Madagascar. Penguin fun

More recently, it would seem there was still a time when animation was in no way inferior to movies. Pixar masterpieces were released every year, and Dreamworks Animation delighted everyone, young and old, with the thoughtful ironic adventures. However, all the beautiful things come to an end someday and we have to state the disappointing fact that once again a half-cooled, somewhat undercooked dish called `` Penguins of Madagascar. '' Penguins may be controversial, but for many people are the best part of the Madagascar animation franchise. Adults and children fell in love with them for their endless energy, optimism and resourcefulness, so the very idea of dedicating two separate hours to a story about their formation looked tempting. The problem is rather that Madagascar surprisingly satisfied the appetites of not only small but also large spectators. Only the first group of persons is in the priorities of the spin-off. Therefore, the movie is filled with hilarious madness, nonsense and a painfully primitive plot.

In addition, the penguins themselves receive extremely little attention for the main characters. A lot of screen time was devoted to a new group of animals called `` North Wind '', which adds humor, but completely pulls out any meaning from the story. The actors endowed everyone with bright, memorable voices, although only one managed to surpass Benedict Cumberbatch. Benedict, who first tried himself in animation, coped with the task with a bang. It would be interesting to see a less balanced character in his performance, but a wolf with a secret name kills with its seriousness on the spot.

Who beat Sherlock himself? John Malkovich! His voice is so suitable for the octopus and the look of the hero created by the artists that it is not clear who is more involved in the process: Malkovich or the animators. Together, however, it creates such an unexpected mix that Dr. Octavius Brian instantly takes over the screen. His behavior was made so topical and relevant that it is easy to recognize loved ones in him, and this, in turn, makes you laugh to tears. In general, Malkovich stole the entire movie on the sly.

As for irony, it is present and absent at the same time. The directors seem to make fun of spy thrillers, making a kind of parody, but at the same time they fill the script so much with cliches and inconsistencies (including with the original trilogy) that one does not have to guess how it will end. Although the interest does not decrease throughout the viewing, on the way out you realize that it was fun, but one-sided. And there's really nothing to remember about anything other than the gorgeous octopus.

The animation is not impressive, although this has never been the forte of Madagascar. Characters are made cute enough to be liked and pleasant to look at without bothering to create anything more valuable than the characters' square toes. But everyone is so similar to toys that the little ones will undoubtedly drop into stores on New Year's Eve in search of four penguins. I'm going to look for an octopus!

In the end, I have to admit that one way or another, but all of Dreamworks Animation's projects have been missing something essential to really shine lately (with the exception of How to Train Your Dragon). " Penguins of Madagascar " were no exception. This is a very funny, cheerful, action-packed and positive movie, albeit a bit goofy, somewhat unoriginal and somewhat disappointing in the end. The franchise will almost certainly live on, but its first spin-off will certainly not be its decoration.
