The production budget for the movie adaptation of The Hobbit turned out to be much more than previously thought. As reported on the Radio New Zealand website, it is $ 660 million.

The note does not specify which dollars are in question - American or New Zealand. But even if the authors measure the budget in New Zealand monetary units, in terms of American ones, it is about $ 550 million.

Note that the amount spent by the project participants to create the Hobbit; was never named officially. It was assumed that the costs do not exceed $ 500 million in two parts. The cost of production for the final episode of the trilogy, which begins movieing in mid-2013, remains to be seen.
