George R.R. Martin believes that a writer in his works should give hope for a good outcome. The author of the series of novels "A Song of Ice and Fire", on which the popular HBO series "Game of Thrones" is based, spoke to students in his alma mater – School of Journalism at Northwestern University, – where he discussed his epic work. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

“I think you need a little hope,” Martin said of how he sees the end of his cycle. “We all yearn for a happy ending in some way. Personally, I am attracted to the bittersweet ending of the story. "

Martin has been talking for a long time that he plans to finish his series of books in keeping with the tone set by J.R.R. Tolkien in the third novel of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King, in which Frodo and his hobbit friends succeeded in saving the world, and upon returning to the Shire, they found it devastated by war. Given the current political alignment in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros - even without considering the threat from the White Walkers, zombies and Ice Spiders to the north of the Wall separating the human world from the unknown forces - it is not hard to imagine how Martin's story could have ended. Martin himself says: “I think Tolkien did it great.”

Martin also touched on the speed at which he writes novels and the speed at which HBO is movieing Game of Thrones.

"I hear them walking behind me for years and the question is this: how can I get myself to write faster? I think at the moment the answer is: no way. I write at the pace I'm used to, and what happens on the show won't change my habits. I started writing about these heroes and this world in 1991, and the first meeting about creating the series happened in 2008. So I had a head start at 17! "Martin noted.

It is rumored that the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter, will be out before the sixth season of Game of Thrones, which will debut spring 2016.
