Shameless Renewed For Season Eight
Showtime has officially renewed family drama Shameless for an eighth season, which will premiere in 2017. The series, starring Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy, will begin production in May 2017. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The extension of the series did not come as a big surprise, as Rossum recently successfully completed negotiations for a new contract, according to which her fee will be comparable to that of Macy. Created by Paul Abbott and designed by John Wells for American television, the show has become an unsung hero for Showtime. As the channel's longest running show, Shameless has only gotten better over the years. The drama attracts an average of 5.8 million viewers per week, just slightly behind Showtime's highest-rated series, Homeland (5.9 million). The seventh season of the series, which ended the day before, December 19, 2016, is the highest-rated season in the history of the drama, and the show itself is one of the five most popular TV series on the channel among the key audience of viewers from 18 to 49 years old, as well as among between 18 and 34.
