Lifetime is developing the thriller Midsummer Night's Nightmare
The female-oriented cable television network Lifetime has commissioned the production of a pilot for the anthology "A Midsummer`s Nightmare". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first season of the anthology will be based on William Shakespeare's classic comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream, which will turn into a modern thriller, A Midsummer Night's Nightmare (Cinema News), exploring fear, lies and the dark side love. The main heroine of the drama Elena, a young woman for whom summer vacation turns into a nightmare. In a potential series, four young lovers decide to have a romantic date in the woods, but their plans come to an end when the terrifying forces that dwell in the thicket of the forest target the group to satisfy their own dark fantasies. The project will be produced by A + E Studios. Jeff Quadinetz and Josh S. Barry (Salem) will executive produce with Anthony Jazwinski (The Shoal), who will write the script. Midsummer`s Nightmare is Lifetime's second collaboration with A + E Studios after the critically acclaimed series "Unreal". The anthology format continues to gain popularity on television, driven by the attraction of top-tier stars in the "short" season among actors, directors and screenwriters, and also the ability for TV networks to offer seasons upon completion of their broadcast to streaming services.
