Jake Gyllenhaal and director Denis Villeneuve will continue the collaboration they successfully started with The Enemy and The Captives. According to Comingsoon, the actor will play the main role in a thriller called "Son", based on the eponymous work of the Scandinavian writer J. Nesbe. The plot revolves around a hero named Sonny Loftus, a once up-and-coming fighter whose life changes dramatically after his police father commits suicide. Sonny ends up in prison, where he is serving a 12-year sentence, finding solace in heroin, the supply of which has been arranged by a local chaplain. One day he learns the truth about the true reasons for the death of his father, escapes from prison and begins to hunt people because of whom he was unjustly convicted. The movie will be produced by Nine Stories and Bold Films. Shooting and possible rental schedules have not been specified at the time of this writing.
