"The Walking Dead" star Sonekwa Martin-Green has been cast as the lead in the new CBS All Access series "Star Trek: Discovery." According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress will play the lieutenant commander. Martin-Green, known to fans of The Walking Dead as Sasha, has already completed work in the seventh season of the zombie drama, and if her character survives, the actress will not return to the set of the series until the summer of 2017. CBS All Access and the producers of CBS Television Studios refrain from commenting.

The upcoming series of digital service CBS All Access will feature new heroes exploring new worlds and civilizations, as well as touching upon pressing issues that have always been a hallmark franchise since its birth in 1966.

Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones were the first actors to officially land roles in the thirteen-episode series. Christopher Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chiffo had been cast in the Klingon roles a few days earlier. Star Trek: Discovery was originally supposed to debut in January 2017, but later its launch was postponed to May.

Recall that Brian Fuller, who took part in the development of the project at the earliest stages, resigned showrunner duties and completely switched to "American Gods" channel Starz.

Martin-Greene claimed the role of Michonne in "The Walking Dead", which eventually went to Danai Gurira. The producers of the series created the role of Sasha, which is not in the print comic, especially for Martin-Green.
