Matthew Vaughn received an offer from 20th Century Fox to direct a movie based on the Flash Gordon comic series. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

This will not be the first adaptation of graphic novels for Vaughn. Previously, he directed such famous movies as Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Recall that the comic strip of the same name was created by the artist Alex Raymond in 1934. The plot revolves around Yale University graduate Flash Gordon, his beloved Dale Arden and eccentric but brilliant scientist Hans Zarkov. Together, they witness the bombardment of Earth from space and travel in a spaceship to the planet Mongo, ruled by the dictator Ming, who organized the attack. Having entered the fight with him, the heroes find themselves in the midst of a dangerous and exciting adventure.

Since the mid-30s of the last century, the comic has been repeatedly screened, becoming the basis for radio performances and animated series. In 1980, a full-length movie was released, in which such actors as Timothy Dalton, Max von Sydow, Robbie Coltrane, Eddie Powell, Jim Carter, Brian Blessid and others played the main roles. The picture was not a success with the audience.

Terms of work on the new project have not yet been specified.
