It is well known that the role of Wolverine in the movie "X-Men" was originally offered to Russell Crowe, who found it not very interesting and recommended his fellow countryman Hugh Jackman. However, as it turned out, there was another contender for the role of one of the most popular mutants - Viggo Mortensen. The actor himself spoke about this in an interview with Yahoo.

"Yes, I was offered to play Wolverine in the first episode. I believe the contract was for the entire franchise. That was even before I got a role in The Lord of the Rings. I came to meet with director Brian Singer along with my Brian showed us all his models and sketches, and Henry acted as a kind of consultant, telling the director what to change, "said the actor.

According to Mortensen, he was forced to decline the offer due to a conflict in movieing schedules. The actor added that he was offered two different roles in the movie "Man of Steel", but he was also unable to take part in the movie.

Recall that Hugh Jackman played Wolverine in all the X-Men movies. In an interview, the actor said that he was ready to play the superhero "to death." However, later on his page on the social network, Jackman clarified that the third solo project dedicated to Wolverine would be his last.
