Many fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy were disappointed that Peter Jackson was not invited to take part in The Hobbit Viggo Mortensen. As it turned out, such an offer was made, but the actor rejected it. Mortensen himself spoke about this in an interview with the British edition of The Guardian.

“In 2008, before they started movieing, one of the producers asked me: Am I interested? I said, “You’re probably aware that Aragorn isn’t in The Hobbit.” Between the events of these two works there are about 60 years, '' the actor said.

According to Mortensen, he has not yet had time to watch The Hobbit, but he will definitely do it, because he is interested: How Peter Jackson will manage to make three movies based on “Such a Thin Book.” “Peter Jackson is a smart man, I guess he was able to do something interesting with this material,” added Mortensen.
