CBS has announced its decision to cancel two of its three summer scripted series - Brainless and American Gothic after the first seasons. In the summer of 2017, the thriller "Zoo" will return, which was extended for a third season back in August this year. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

"Brainless" became the first series of showrunners and executive producers Robert and Michelle King after "The Right Wife." The series, movieed in the genre of political satire with elements of horror, boasts a modest demo rating of 0.4 seven days after the broadcast. The CBS Television Studios drama stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Danny Pino, Tony Shalub and Aaron Tveit. The premiere of the series, the launch of which was accompanied by a loud advertising campaign, attracted nearly five million viewers, and the September finale only attracted half of the original audience.

Juliet Rylance and Justin Chatwin starred in the family drama American Gothic, directed by Corinne Brinkerhoff. The series, co-produced by CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television, debuted with 3.4 million viewership ratings, which dropped significantly by the season 1 finale.

CBS President Glenn Geller, speaking to the media this summer, admitted that both series fell short hope for them.
