Channel NBC has decided to cancel the drama "Aquarius" after the second season. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

NBC launched a series, created by John McNamara and starring David Duchovny, in the summer of 2015. The historical drama, which follows the infamous Family cult leader Charles Manson and the undercover cops tracking him down, was the first public television series to be made available on the day of its premiere. NBC posted all twelve episodes of the first season online, which could be watched within four weeks of the show's debut.

"Aquarius", which started with a more than modest 1.05 rating from a key audience of 18 under 49, doubled rates with deferred views in seven days. The network moved the unpopular series from Thursday to Saturday and, to the surprise of many, very quickly renewed it for a second season.

NBC continued its experiments with a second season, which started with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, July 16, 2016 , and attracted the attention of 2.7 million TV viewers. Since August 27, the show again began to air on Saturdays. The season finale was watched by 1.2 million people, and its demo rating was 0.2.

McNamara originally planned to movie at least six seasons. The closure of the series unties Duchovny's hands to participate in a potential sequel to the revived X-Files.
