The first gay hero will appear in Star Trek 3

The movie "Star Trek 3: Infinity" will feature the first gay character in the history of the popular franchise. According to the Australian edition of the Herald Sun, it turned out to be a familiar to all fans of the series, Mr. Hikaru Sulu.

In the course of the story, it turns out that he is married to a partner of the same sex, and together they are raising a daughter. "I liked the approach that assumes a complete lack of hype around this," commented Sulu's performer John Cho. "I believe that this is the direction in which we should move as a species - trying not to politicize anyone's orientation."

It is alleged that the moviemakers perceive this plot twist as a kind of nod to the actor George Takei, who played Sulu in the popular television series for many years. He was forced to hide his non-traditional sexual orientation in order not to lose his job, and only recognized it in 2005.

As a reminder, Star Trek 3: Infinity comes out in the year that Star Trek's 50th anniversary is celebrated. The movie stars Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Zoe Soldana, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Deep Roy and other actors. The director is Justin Lin.
