Warren Beatty asked the Academy to acquit him

Hollywood veteran Warren Beatty has asked the leadership of the American Film Academy and personally its head Cheryl Boone Isaacs to publicly declare his innocence in the incident that occurred during the 2017 Academy Awards. The actor's statement is quoted by The Wrap.

According to Beatty, he refuses to comment further on the matter, and insists that Isaacs clarify the situation to the press completely and irrevocably.

As a reminder, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway received the wrong envelope during the presentation of the Best Picture winner. As a result, the title of the movie "La La Land" sounded from the stage, although in reality the drama "Moonlight" won. For an unclear reason, the mistake was not immediately noticed, and the producers of "La La Land" managed to go on stage and receive the coveted "Oscars".

Later, the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers, which has been counting the votes of Film Academics for more than 80 years, took all the blame for what happened, claiming that the confusion with the envelopes was the fault of one of its employees.

The Film Academy itself has made an official apology to all the unwitting participants in this incident and promised to investigate its circumstances.
