Omar Sharif, whose real name is Michel Demitri Shalhub, was born in 1932 in Alexandria into a Catholic family. He studied at the University of Cairo and received a diploma in physics and mathematics. World fame came to the actor immediately after the release of his first English-language movie "Lawrence of Arabia", in which he played the role of Sharif Ali. This work secured him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and two Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actor and Best Debut.

Another "Golden Globe" Omar Sharif received for the main role in the movie "Doctor Zhivago", released in 1965. In it he played a major role. Later, the actor starred in many Hollywood movies, such as "McKenna's Gold", "13th Warrior", "Gulliver's Travels" and others.
